Deer Damage to Tree

This South Charlotte customer is plagued with deer activity. Their lawn stays rooted by the deer, and the bucks rub their antlers on the cryptomeria trees. Here is a small tree that was severely damaged by a male deer. The tree has never been able to recover, since the deer activity is so high in this area. The homeowner has made this the “sacrificial tree”. As long as the deer use this tree for rutting, they seem to be leaving the others alone. Hanging soap on a rope from a limb, or making a paste of cayenne pepper and petroleum jelly, and smearing it on the trees, seems to work well as a preventative to deer damage.
